The Bareen Initiative for Development held an online seminar entitled “Empowering Voices: Standing Up to Gender-Based Violence” on November 25, 2024. The speaker of the program was Ms. Nigara Mirdad, Deputy Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in Poland. Ms. Mirdad discussed important points of Afghan women’s struggle during the three years of Taliban rule and also recalled important cases of social violence against women.

Ms. Mirdad added that in the current situation, the voice of Afghanistan’s heroic women has attracted the attention of the international community. She also stressed women’s unity against Taliban rule in the fight against the group.

Women’s struggles in politics and society can put pressure on the international community to gain sufficient support for the fight against gender apartheid and women’s rights in Afghanistan.

At the end of the seminar, Ms. Mirdad and the two organizing bodies emphasized the need to create effective programs to advocate for human rights and women’s rights.

This seminar successfully managed to network various participants and emphasized the importance of empowering women, highlighting ways to strengthen their development. The seminar focused on the potential for innovation to amplify women’s voices and laid the groundwork for future collaborative projects.
