Afghanistan’s Educational System and Society’s Needs

Bareen Initiative for Development (BID), organized an online program on “Afghanistan’s educational system and society’s needs” on 26 June 2024. The speaker of the program was Dr Manizha Ramizy, university lecturer and human rights defender. Regarding the educational system, Dr Ramizy said that the correct and standardized educational system is the main factor in making a society literate, and its opposite can be the main factor in illiteracy and destroys the foundations of a society.

Regarding the education system of Afghanistan, Dr Ramizy said that in the current situation, Afghanistan does not have an education system that can meet the needs of the Afghan society and the world community, and that too in the 21st century where the world has become a global village and we can simply utilize the good and positive resources of others and create an educational system that meets the needs of the Afghan society and the world community, and with that, put the educational structure of Afghanistan next to the knowledge caravan of the world.

Dr Ramizy added that the educational system that does not include half of the society and half of the society is forbidden from learning, such system is not beneficial to the society and will not succeed. Afghanistan needs a standardized educational structure that is based on the demands of the Afghan society and international standards and includes all sections of the society and is based on requirements of the conditions of the Afghan labor market and the international community, and those who graduate from this educational system should be able to meet the demand of the labor market and get a job.

Dr Ramizy offered the following as suggestions:

  1. Petition to increase online and face-to-face scholarships for young people, especially women;
  2. Increasing online curricula;
  3. Attention to private universities curricula to prepare young people for the labor market;
  4. Publishing various scientific and cultural books and distributing them to young people in cities and provinces.
